Grand View-on-Hudson (or Grand View) is a village incorporated in 1918 in the town of Orangetown in Rockland County, New York. It is located north of Piermont, east of Orangeburg, south of South Nyack, and west of the Hudson River. The population was 285 at the 2010 census, and the village has a total area of 0.2 square miles of land. The name pointing out the scenic view from its location.
The history of Grand View-on-Hudson dates to 1671 when Dutch wheelwright, Claes Jansen Kuyper (Cooper) obtained a land patent from the Duke of York for a large territory including what is now the village of Grand View-on-Hudson. In the late 18th century Garret Onderdonk settled in the Grand View area where he opened the first of many brownstone quarries in the community in 1785. This remained one of the area’s most productive industries into the 1860s. In 1915 the village of Grand View was formally incorporated. However, in 1917 a portion of the village requested to be removed from the incorporated village, so on May 29, 1918, the present village of Grand View-on-Hudson was reincorporated.
