Located in New Jersey, the Township of Mahwah is the northernmost city in Bergen County. Measuring roughly 26 square miles, the Mahwah population has grown to almost 26,000 people. The township sits on the New York/New Jersey border in the picturesque Ramapo Mountains of northern New Jersey.
The name “Mahwah” originates from the word “mawewi” or “Meeting Place”. Originally formed as the Hohokus Township in 1849, Mahwah was incorporated in 1944 by the New Jersey Legislature. Mahwah holds many local treasures, like railroad tycoon George Crocker’s three-story, 75-room mansion, the Ramapo River, the Campgaw Mountain Reservation, Campgaw Mountain Ski Center, and the Ramapo College of New Jersey.
Mahwah has a rich history in the Garden State. In 2015, the New York-New Jersey Trail honored the organizations’ 95th year with the grand opening of the new Trail Conference headquarters at the historic Darlington Schoolhouse in Mahwah. For 25 years, it was site of Ford Motor Company’s major assembly plant and, at the time, was the largest in the United States. From 1976-2001, Mahwah played host to the A&P Tennis Classic, a warm up to the US Open. Important figures, like ACLU founder Roger Nash Baldwin and Alice Guy-Blanché, one of the first woman film directors, called Mahwah home.
Cooling and heating systems are a necessity for all Mahwah homes. Daytime temperature highs during the winter months of December, January, and February range from the low to mid-30s. Also, snowfall is common. Heating systems like heat pumps are best suited to be installed in Mahwah homes. When temperatures drop, efficient heating help residents stay warm and comfortable inside their homes.
In addition to heating systems, residents of Mahwah should have cooling systems installed in their homes. During the summer seasons, temperatures range from the upper-70s to mid-80s. However, Bergen County is not immune to heat waves. Precipitation is common during the summer months as well. Cooling systems like central air conditioning units help Mahwah residents stay cool and comfortable inside their homes. When properly installed by professional technicians, the HVAC systems protect residents and their homes from potential damages caused by extreme temperatures.
